Auditions: FAQ

I heard about auditions, what do I do now?

You, as the super enthused and excited potential Dyno, should know that auditions are in Herter Hall. We typically hold auditions on multiple days, but you only have to attend one audition day. Come down to Herter any time during the audition period for the day you choose (preferably EARLY!), and there will be a sign in sheet (first come, first served) where you will write your name and phone number.

Be prepared with a song that showcases your vocal strengths and characteristics, so we can hear how amazing you are! Try to sing a verse and a chorus of the song and give us your best!

Do you have any advice for an auditionee?

The best advice we can give is for you to just be yourself! Don't try to be someone you THINK we'd want to see. We're all weird in our own way and that's what makes our group really click!

Also, make the songs your own and do what's comfortable for your singing range. We've all heard Ben E. King's "Stand By Me" and frankly we just want to hear your version and what you choose to do with it! This gives us an idea of what kind of musical variety you could add to the group. At the same time, we don't want you to pick a song that you won't sound good on. Choose whatever song feels right, it'll definitely make the audition easier on yourself.

How often does UMass Dynamics meet?

We rehearse 3 days each week and our rehearsal times change depending on the availability of members each semester. Rehearsals are usually around 1.5 to 2 hours long in the evenings.

I'm not a music major. Is that okay?

ABSOLUTELY YES. Most of our members aren't music majors either! We have a wide range of majors from Chemical Engineering and Biology to Theater to Business and Economics! It's all different kinds of people that make the group we love; a quirky bunch of smart and fun students!
